These female MCs are about to be in trouble because the First Lady of Terror Squad is coming home! With a majority of female rappers conforming to the ideal and clean-cut image of mainstream Hip Hop today, it's exciting to see a woman that lyrical went against the norm from the jump getting back into the game again. After being sentenced to prison back in 2008 on two counts of assault after a shooting altercation, Remy Ma has served six of her eight year sentence and is expected to be released from prison on July 31.
The Bronx native recently called-in to speak with Power 105's own Angie Martinez on July 21 about her plans to focus on her career upon her release, gradually maturing in prison, and her marriage to rapper Papoose while behind bars. Remy sounded joyful during the phone interview and is excited about all the projects she is about to get into which will be filmed in an upcoming reality show.
Remy told Angie Martinez:
"I grew up a lot, like I look at things differently. Looking back and looking at everything else, I was able to see a lot of things. I was really crazy. You get to see from when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please…it's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear your hair how you want."
In regards to Remy's music career, currently the only real competition she would have is Nicki Minaj. Seeing as how Nicki has been holding a steady spot as a female at the top of the Hip Hop charts for the past couple of years, she would definitely be one of Remy's major competitors. Instead of having animosity towards the rapper for her recent success, Remy has nothing but love for Miss Minaj and wishes more female rappers would come out of their comfort zone to take over the game as well.
"Nick has always been a supporter. I love what she's done, she's done wonderful things for females but…I just wish there was more of them . I don't know what they're doing, they're letting these guys take over."
At this point in time, it's looking like nothing but positive vibes and good times for the Grammy-nominated artist upon her release from prison. The "Conceited" rapper has some high expectations to live up to in the next couple of months but she seems to be ready to take on the fire.
It's about time somebody comes and shakes things up in this Hip Hop game! Welcome home Remy Ma! Your fans welcome you back with open arms.
