Timbaland Working With Missy Elliott, on her new album...

Infamous record producer Timbaland has made history throughout the years. He's had hits from late recording artist Aaliyah, to the pop and R&B phenomenon Justin Timberlake. He's worked with A list artists including Jay Z, Nas, 50 Cent, Eminem, Madonna, and Run DMC, just to name a few, of the limitlessly, most creative talent he's collaborated and worked with.

One artist in particular he has worked pretty close with over the years, is Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott. He has produced two of Missy’s LP’s, “This is not a test” in 2002 and “Under Construction”, created in 2003. They both blossomed together and set the tone for their era of music.

When deciding to team up with the late R&B princess, Aaliyah; they collectively produced nine tracks on her second album entitled, “One in a Million”. This album was ranked number 90 on Rolling Stones, “100 Greatest Albums of the 1990’s” and listed as one of 33 Hip Hop/R&B albums in Rolling Stones, “Essential Albums of the 90’s." The two made a huge impact on Hip Hop and R&B in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, with songs such as, Missy Elliot’s “The Rain," “Work It," “Get Your Freak On," and “One Minute Man." Together, they proved to everyone that when they work together, there are no limits!

Although Timbaland has been working on his “Purple Rain”, a solo album entitled, “Opera Noir” with no features; the hip hop and R&B connoisseurs have found the time to give the industry another run for its money. It’s been nearly a decade since Missy has dropped her solo record, “The Cook Book” in 2005, but Timbaland has spilled the beans about a soon to be released studio album entitled, “Block Party," by Missy Elliott. In a recent interview, Timbaland states, “Its something you’ve never heard Missy do, it’s today but it’s the future.”

From the sounds of everything, the album seems to be pretty promising, and when these two collaborate, it's usually a murder scene!  If it's anything like the feeling us 90’s kids used to get when listening to their creativeness intertwine, then this album is definitely something to endure!

The Return of Remy Ma Upon Her Release From Six Years Behind Bars

These female MCs are about to be in trouble because the First Lady of Terror Squad is coming home! With a majority of female rappers conforming to the ideal and clean-cut image of mainstream Hip Hop today, it's exciting to see a woman that lyrical went against the norm from the jump getting back into the game again. After being sentenced to prison back in 2008 on two counts of assault after a shooting altercation, Remy Ma has served six of her eight year sentence and is expected to be released from prison on July 31.
The Bronx native recently called-in to speak with Power 105's own Angie Martinez on July 21 about her plans to focus on her career upon her release, gradually maturing in prison, and her marriage to rapper Papoose while behind bars. Remy sounded joyful during the phone interview and is excited about all the projects she is about to get into which will be filmed in an upcoming reality show.
Remy told Angie Martinez:
"I grew up a lot, like I look at things differently. Looking back and looking at everything else, I was able to see a lot of things. I was really crazy. You get to see from when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please…it's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear your hair how you want."
In regards to Remy's music career, currently the only real competition she would have is Nicki Minaj. Seeing as how Nicki has been holding a steady spot as a female at the top of the Hip Hop charts for the past couple of years, she would definitely be one of Remy's major competitors. Instead of having animosity towards the rapper for her recent success, Remy has nothing but love for Miss Minaj and wishes more female rappers would come out of their comfort zone to take over the game as well.
"Nick has always been a supporter. I love what she's done, she's done wonderful things for females but…I just wish there was more of them . I don't know what they're doing, they're letting these guys take over."
At this point in time, it's looking like nothing but positive vibes and good times for the Grammy-nominated artist upon her release from prison. The "Conceited" rapper has some high expectations to live up to in the next couple of months but she seems to be ready to take on the fire.
It's about time somebody comes and shakes things up in this Hip Hop game! Welcome home Remy Ma! Your fans welcome you back with open arms.

WWE Monday Night Raw Review: Stephanie McMahon, Brie Bella, the build up to Summer Slam, and more...

photo credit:: wwe.com

Monday night was pretty event-less. Stephanie McMahon steals the show for the second week in a row. The latest build to SummerSlam is a bit of a let down, Jericho vs Bray Wyatt. Stephanie vs Brie is the only match that really reels me in. Is there any point in watching more than the last half hour of Raw?
The "vindictive, manipulative bitch" apologizes and agrees to her first match in over a decade. Brie gets her job back in exchange she must drop all charges against her boss. This is mounting up to be the best match at SummerSlam. There's nothing I love more than Stephanie McMahon in the ring. Queue the dirty 90's cat fights. Words can't describe how excited I am!!

A lot of disappointment this week but on the plus side, the more I watch the Wyatt family, the more I fall in love with them. "The relentless Wyatts." The weirdos. They are my kind of people. Everything from their entrance theme to their mind games. Paige, on the other hand, is giving a rather mundane performance. Unless the plan is to bore us to death. Then, surprise us with a totally bat-shit crazy Paige chainsaw match. Yes, i said chainsaw. I don't think there's any other way to save her. WWE thinks AJ is too valuable and will most likely let Paige fade away. Does anyone else's heart break a little when Ole pops up on the screen for Los Matadores? I know it will never happen but my heart skips a beat for El Generico and Steen. I can still hear the "Ole ole ole ole" chant from ROH.

I feel like I should be more excited for this Reigns vs Orton feud, but I'm not. Neither was that kid that kept screaming "RANDY YOU STINK!" I wanna see Kane kick some ass. What's the point of having him come down to the ring at all? Kane deserves the spotlight. I have to say though, this might have been the most exciting wrestling of the night. Anyone going through the announcer's table will get my attention.

What Happened To Rap Battles? Total Slaughter Review, Battle Rap History, and more...

WHAT happened to Battle Rap?

In music, progression is necessary for the betterment of the industry. Artists in every genre must adapt with the times or they will never be able to reach the pinnacle of their craft. Keeping up with the times is fun, it’s necessary, and it’s lucrative. If an artist can keep making money by tapping into new fans on a regular basis then they will have a long and fruitful career. But one thing must remain a constant in order for the genre to thrive, and the one thing is the essence of what brought the music about to begin with must remain the foundation. Without the foundation or the original concept that made the artist and the fans appreciate the music, nothing happens. One genre that has lost a lot of its luster is battle rap. This version of battle rap that I’ve been seeing over the last few years has its heart in the right place, but it’s mind has misguided sense of direction. In recent times the battle scene has went away from the low-key phenomenon that made it must see TV. The rappers that battle are still supremely talented, but the entire battle rap productions and extravagant shows look like something Broadway musical or an episode of 106 & Park’s Freestyle Friday. After watching the recent Total Slaughter pay-per-view, it seems like these are sad times for battle rap.

Total Slaughter Equals Total Letdown…

For two weeks leading up to Total Slaughter all the talk was about how amazing the battle production put on by Eminem would be. Eminem got his start as a battle rapper and of course he made an entire movie (8 Mile) about it. If anyone could take the battle rap genre and turn it into a huge pay-per-view event that I would enjoy watching, it would be Eminem. I knew most of the guys in the line up including Arsonal, Joe Buddens, T-Rex, Murda Mook and Loaded Lux. I had heard Daylyt was really talented and the Hollow Da Don kid from Queens had insanely good bars. So I couldn’t wait to watch this and have it spark my interest for battle rap again. By the end of the night I was shocked and disappointed by what I had just witnessed. Was this what battle rap had come to? The California rapper Daylyt battled in a Spawn costume then stripped down to his boxers and just laid on the floor until his round was over? Really? I knew the show was going to go down hill from there and I was correct.
The aspect that sold me on the show to begin with was watching Loaded Lux battle Murda Mook. My first battle experience was watching smack DVD’s of guys like Mook and Lux making their bones in the streets of Harlem battling in clothing shops and rooftops battling in front of local crowds. Mook was always a monster whose punch lines were so devastating that it sometimes took the crowd a second or two to realize how sick his lines actually were. Mook’s style was always more direct, more disrespectful in a sense but in the battle way of disrespect. Mook wanted to make a mockery of the idea that you challenged him to begin with. Then he went about breaking you down punch line by punch line.
Then there was the style Lux brought to the battle game. Lux seemed more methodical with his approach. Every line was leading to something, a bigger picture of how you were going to meet your demise. Lux would use huge words just to make his dumbfounded opponent feel like an idiot, then he would go back to being the kid from Harlem and hitting his opponent with bars about why his opponents clothes were terrible or why his opponent was a nobody in the neighborhood. The best way to sum up Lux would be using the Lauryn Hill line, “And even after all my logic and my theory/ I add a motherfucker so you ignant niggas hear me.” For me that epitomized Lux’s style and he pulled it off very well. It had been quite a while since I heard either man battle so I was hyped going into their match. Two Harlem battle legends coming back to battle each other like old days.
Unfortunately, times have changed. The Loaded Lux is saw on that stage was not the same Lux from the Smack DVD’s. This Lux was still just as intelligent with his word play, but he was more preacher than battle rapper. He went on for long stretches not attacking Mook and I have no idea what he was even talking about half the time. He was just on stage rambling. Is this what fame and money does to the greats in battle rap? If so it was sad to watch.
When it was Mook’s turn, he seemed a lot like the Mook I enjoyed watching in the early 2000’s.  But there was one difference, this Mook was far less ruthless. Mook was spitting bars and getting after Lux, but it wasn’t the vicious Mook I remember from before. Old Mook would have dismantled Lux for such a poor showing. But this Mook was just battling to battle, not because he wanted to prove he was the best at his craft. Rather he was battling like he already made it in life and was just doing it for the money and TV exposure.
Go back and watch this battle between the two battle rap legends and you’ll see what I miss about those two, here.

Maybe it was just an off night for Lux, and maybe because Lux was off that threw Mook off as well. If Total Slaughter was any indication of what I’ve missed from these two in recent times, I’m glad I stopped following them when I did.
Last and definitely least was the battle between Joe Buddens and Hollow Da Don. I knew this was going to be bad for the simple fact that I’ve watched dozens of battles in my life, and I’ve never see a rapper that’s established come into the ring and battle an established battle rapper. The closest I’ve seen is Cassidy battle Freeway years ago but both were known rappers and barring some people saying Cassidy was a huge battle rapper in Philly, both were mainstream guys. I heard Hollow was talented and I know Buddens music so I figured both would bring their A games. I thought Hollow wanted to prove a point and show that battle rappers are just as talented as guys who’ve made it in the rap game, and Buddens would so up big to prove to battle rappers that mainstream rappers are great at anything they set their minds to. What I witnessed was Hollow being clever and talented, but not focused on the battle, and Buddens was blatantly reciting raps he wrote prior to the battle. It was embarrassing. At one point hollow stopped rapping to tell Buddens if he ever hit another woman again in his life that Hollow would beat him to the ground. What? And during the 3rd round Buddens kept stopping to complain about the crowd booing. The crowd was booing him because not only was it apparent he was spitting written material, but also he wasn’t even winning by basically cheating. I’m a fan of Budden, but his showing at the rap event was a joke. He was basically booed off stage and he quit. This is the event the battle world was waiting for? The microphones didn’t work properly half the time, the crowd was booing and cheering at the most confusing moments as if they were doing it on cue,  and most of the rappers seemed like they were only there for a paycheck. I was shocked that Eminem was the person that put this together. This was not what I was expecting form a Marshall Mathers production, and from the tweets and I articles I read that night, most of the viewers felt the same. The Battle rap game has moved away from what made it great, and it will have to go back to the beginning in order for it to be fun again.

Battle Rap Is A Gladiators Sport, Not Broadway…

Battle rap has become a great revenue stream for rappers, promoters, television networks and everyone in between. And when money is involved, things change. Go back and watch some of the greatest rap battle in history, and see what they all have in common: Two hungry battle rappers, not battling for money, battling simply for respect and to build their reputations. But in the beginning of the battle rap phenomenon the rappers weren’t the only reason battle rap was great. The spectators were almost as big in the battles as the rappers were. People that come from the hoods across America know how to amp a situation up. When battles were held in clothing shops and roofs in Harlem and the Bronx, the people from those neighborhoods who knew the landscape were packed into those places to root on their local rappers. The laughs at punch lines were what spurred rappers to continue tearing an opponent apart. If a rapper could get the crowd going, then that would go a long way into swaying the decision of who won the battle. It was not about winning money; it was about winning the crowd. Once a rapper swayed the crowd, his confidence grew, and with it so did his swagger and the cleverness of the lines he was delivering. Conversely, the rapper hearing the crowd growing against him knew when his turn was up, he would have to step it up in a major way and do what was necessary to win them back. That was the essence of the competition. No microphones, no large-scale productions, no fans paying money to watch at home or in person; none of the non-sense. But with money being thrown left and right, no one can or should fault rappers for joining battle leagues and doing paper-view events. The money is too good to pass up. But if Total Slaughter is what the world is to expect from rap battles from this point on, then I’ll go back to my battle rap hiatus. Sometimes change is great, but other than rappers making money now, battle rap isn’t as fun for me anymore, and that’s a shame.

Cassidy Reveals Jay Z Set Up His 2001 Rap Battle Versus Philly Rapper Freeway & More In VladTV Interview

Cassidy recently let fans in on a little secret about his freestyle battle back in 2001 versus fellow Philadelphia native Freeway.  In a recent interview with VladTV, the rapper reveled that the battle was actually organized by Hip Hop legend Jay Z. Although Cassidy was never close with Hov, he was able to spend this time with him by networking through both of the rappers' good friend super-prouder Swizz Beatz.
Cassidy told VladTV:
"The most time me and Jay Z spent around each other talking was the Freeway battle thing. He the one that set it up. It was me, him and Swizz in the studio before it all went down, so that was the time I really spent the most time around him and really talked to him and all that sh-t."
The "I'm a Hustla" rapper also touched on the current state of Hip Hop in his interview. When asked by VladTV if he believes there is enough lyricism in the game today, Cassidy did not hesitate to relieve his thoughts on the sad reality of the industry.
"Hell no, of course not. It’s definitely not. And you know, that’s the main things I love about hip-hop. Some people like hip-hop for flows. Some people like hip-hop for beats. But what overrules all of that is lyrics, bars. That’s what I like more than anything, and I feel as though it ain’t enough of that."
In addition to the freestyle battle revelation and his comments on the state of Hip Hop today, Cassidy told VladTV that he still believes he has the best bars in the game.

Oxygen's 'Sisterhood of Hip Hop' Shines Lights On Five Talented Up & Coming Female Artists Looking To Break In To The Industry

Make way for the female MCs because this summer Oxygen is bringing you a treat. The network excitedly aired the preview to its new show Sisterhood of Hip Hop on July 22.  With the show being executive produced by the "King of the South," T.I., the Sisterhood of Hip Hop series is already stamped for success. The struggle to pull-through to a mainstream artist in the Hip Hop genre today is extensive especially as a woman. Being that female Hip Hop artists have been known to give in to preconceived notions that sex sells easier than their underdog story, these five women look to do away with bs of the ideal industry look to become a game-changer by doing it their own way.
Oxygen passionately describes the mission of Sisterhood of Hip Hop on their website:
With Grammy-Award winning recording artist T.I. as Executive Producer, this powerful and uplifting series follows the next generation of female hip-hop artists Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, Diamond, Brianna Perry and Bia as they live, love and work towards their dream of becoming the next big breakout star, which has always been a man’s game and these ladies are rewriting the rules of the music scene. Discovered and mentored by hip-hop icons, these creative and ambitious women are making it while breaking boundaries and defying doubters. While they realize that their lives are a work in progress, they are at a crossroads, and are finding their unique voices. Can they support and collaborate with one another in order to make their dreams a reality?
After watching the preview episode, I personally believe it'll be a unique change to primetime cable television. The passion and dedication that these five women acquire is phenomenal but their quests to morally reach the status of fame the right way is even more intriguing. Of course the show does have a bit of theatrics in it as the women fiercely compete with each other to limit their competition, but it wouldn't be reality television without a little drama right? The show is set to premiere on August 12 at 9/8c on Oxygen. Will you be supporting these female MCs on their quest to mainstream?

The first lady of Hip Hop radio has done it again! Angie Martinez is truly "The Voice of New York" as she snagged the most talked about couple beside Kimye for their first joint interview. The Power 105.1 FM host sat down with rising rapper French Montana and his reality star beaut Khloe Kardashian on July 24 and let them dish on everything from their sex life to addressing critics who question the sincerity of their relationship.
After the horrific public breakup with her husband, basketball player Lamar Odom, it seemed to be difficult for Khloe to jump back into the dating game - but it now seems as though she has met her match. French told Angie that Diddy was to blame for their budding relationship as he introduced them during a drunken night in the studio and they've been kicking it ever since.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star expressed the love she has for French letting Angie in on the rapper's sense of humor as well as the more sensitive side that fans don't necessarily get to see.
He is probably one of the funniest people I have ever met in my life. In my life. You cannot stop laughing, like crying laughing.People definitely don't see the great parts about him too...but there's also a different side of him which he keeps more private as he should...He can be a softie sometimes.
It has only been less than a month after their red carpet debut as a couple at Khloe's 30th birthday party and their already comfortable enough to dish out their raunchy sex life to the media. Although French observing Ramadan has put a bit of a hinder on their sexual activities, Khloe supports her man's by helping him as he restrains from food, drink, smoking, and sex until after sundown each day during the Muslim holiday.
Of course with such a high-profile relationship comes critics, but Khloe has got a word or two for the haters who pride off of biting off other's happiness.
People are gonna comment no matter what. If I dated the most clean-cut perfect guy, they're gonna comment. That's just the way it is. If I'm having fun and if I like this kid, no one else should care, they're not f--king him, (laughs) or maybe they are, I don't know.
French responded to to his lady's statement with his "haaaaaaaaaaaa" signature and agreed to just let the haters hate while him and Khloe keep busy just doing them.

Has the T.I, Tiny, and Mayweather Feud finally come to an end?

(via wordondastreet.com)

The incident that took place inside of Las Vegas’ Fat Burger between Rapper T.I. and Floyd Mayweather, had caused an ongoing streak of uncertainties and all around trouble. This pre-meditated altercation began when the two were in New York. T.I spotted Floyd at a jewelry store, he pulled him to the side to discuss what seemed to be aboutTiny, when telling him, “these girls tryna play us against each other.” Mayweather cleared the air immediately and stated that he and Tiny, T.I’s wife, had absolutely nothing going on so he had nothing to worry about. Mayweather, inviting Tiny and her friend to a fight on May 4, 2014 and an after-party at his mom’s house, definitely raised T.I.’s suspicions. On Sunday, May 25, 2014, T.I approached the professional boxer about a situation that seemed to be unclear at the time, which quickly led to a full fledge brawl; including the throwing of chairs, tables, and the two parties bodyguards. There were then some accusations that the initial brawl had aroused over a possible intimate relationship between Rapper T.I.’s wife and Mayweather. Prior to the brawl, Mayweather stated, that T.I needed to “Control his B*tch!” Well, why exactly does he need to control her, what has she done to or with Floyd that made him use such commentary?

Apparently, nothing in particular was done with Tiny sexually to set him off, according to Mayweather. However, a video was released this past weekend where Mayweather was recorded stating that “he f*cked his b*tch,” which is in reference to T.I. Mayweather completely denied the recording and what "seemed" like he admitted to having sexual relations with Tiny, by saying that he really said HE THINKS “I was f*cking his b*tch.” While T.I and Tiny totally chose to decline any further comments or concerns about the past incidents, Mayweather wanted  to clear the air as well, although he has referred to Tiny in an inappropriate manner on multiple occasions. Despite everything that had unravelled thus far, he issued a specific apology to her, stating that they were established prior to the marriage of her and Rapper T.I., and that she had never been disrespectful to him, so it was in no way appropriate to lash out about her, like he did. Weeks after an overdue burst of maturity, T.I and Tiny decided to end this brief feud with Mr. Floyd "Money" Mayweather and move forward with their lives. It is now safe to say that what started off as a huge fiasco, has now turned into one apologetic party with the perfect tunes from T.I and Tiny. The song by R&B artist Tameka “Tiny” Harris entitled “What the f*ck you gon do,” has officially been released on iTunes as of 7/22/2014, along with T.I.’s new single entitled “Stay”.

After an extremely chaotic couple of weeks, the two have seemed to be working on positive projects somewhere in between the confusion, T.I and Tiny can now freely focus on their relationship, and Floyd can focus on himself, as they can now go their separate ways, at least for right now!

Busta Rhymes Says Farewell to Cash Money Records After 2 years!

Birdman and Busta Rhymes end things on a positive note.....

After two years of being a part of the family, Busta Rhymes has decided to part ways with his most recent recording label, Cash Money Records. The Hip Hop legend left Birdman on a positive note, but simply felt that he was not willing to compromise his vision for his album. He had been working on an album for about five years now and made many sacrifices. In the process of this album, he lost his father in late January, and Longtime friend and manager, Chris Lightly in August of 2012. All of that baggage carried into the making of his work, made times imaginably hard. He had a certain vision for the way he wanted his album to be structured, and in the end, that couldn't be executed the way he envisioned. So, Birdman and Busta Rhymes parted ways.

In a previous video, Busta Rhymes states, “we ain’t facilitating everything necessary for the vision to be seen and executed in the way I’m envisioning this sh– for the last five years, let me live and die in my own inequity.” Although Busta Rhymes and Birdman have done great work with one another, before and during the link of Cash Money, this will definitely not be the end of these two creating something great for the world to endure. Unfortunately, Busta Rhymes is not affiliated with Cash Money anymore. However this does not mean that this will be the end for future collaborations and projects, between him and the artists affiliated with the label. These are two iconic names that have done tremendous deeds in the industry; -once family, always family.

No bridges have been burnt, so there are no limits as to what may happen, between the two in the future.

Lauryn Hill Schools Heckling Fan On Respect After She’s An Hour Late For Her Own Concert

lauryn-hill-090713
Image Credit: The Week with the First Post (theweek.co.uk)

Grammy award-winning recording artist Lauryn Hill taught her concert-goers that she demands a little bit of R-E-S-P-E-C-T when she hits the stage. The Hip Hop legend recently performed at the House of Blues in Chicago, Illinois on July 16  and took it upon herself to remove a heckling fan after she deemed him as being disrespectful. The most ironic detail of them all is that TMZ reports the singer was nearly an hour late for her own concert and once she got on stage fans viewed her performance as "rushed and sloppy."
According to TMZ after the fan called out the singer and flipped her off for not delivering a suitable enough opening, she belittled the fan in front of the entire crowd and sent him packing.
The "Killing Me Softly" singer let the crowd know that she wasn't having it real quick:
"When I get up on this stage, don’t be disrespectful. Seriously, you can go. You can go, I would prefer that. You’re gonna mess this up for the rest of these people. . . Excuse me, excuse me, there’s a gentlemen over there who just did something I don’t like. Can you please escort him out and refund him his money? I don’t play that. I don’t need to win you over and you don’t need to win me over. You can go and you can take all your money right back. I do this because I love it, not because I owe you anything, do you understand? I do this because I love it and you can get on your blogs, Tweet, whatever you want to. I don’t give a rat’s ass."
Take a look at the footage of the incident here.

Kanye West Opens Up To GQ Magazine About Fatherhood, The Paparazzi, & A New Album In The Works

Image Credit: GQ Magazine (GQ.com) ; Photographed By Patrick Demarchelier

Kanye West is a man of his word and his dreams. The rapper recently sat down with GQ Magazine just ten days after his extravagant wedding in Florence, Italy to his fiancée, the world renown reality star Kim Kardashian. With all the good that's been happening in his life lately like becoming a father to his adorable baby girl North West and his breakthrough in the fashion industry with his  A.P.C. capsule collection in addition to his Adidas line which is coming this fall, all that ranting Mr. West did while on the Yeezus tour must have paid off.

Being a rap legend at just 37-years-old is in no way an easy job. But Ye fully acknowledges his stance in society and knows that it's difficult to stay at the number one spot. Shockingly, he even confessed to knowing that he is no longer the most popular dude in the rap game.

"Currently that spot is taken. Let's be honest—he got last summer. Who?  You know. There's only one person. Drake? Yeah. He got last summer. And I'd never given it up till last summer."

Kanye even took the time to open up about his love - hate relationship with the paparazzi and how his every move somehow always ends up being in the spotlight.

"My goal is just to be respected as a man when I walk down the street with my family. I don't care what your job is, you're not gonna talk down to me, you're not gonna try to get a rise out of me. I'm a man first. And in establishing that, some interesting things have happened. [laughs] It's difficult. And then put on top of that the idea of going and taking meetings with people, and people say, "We don't want to work with you, because we saw you get mad about running into the sign.'"

The rapper went on compare himself to a blowfish when handling incidents like when he was caught on video by TMZ walking into a stop sign trying to run away from all the chaos of the cameras.

"I'm not a shark, I'm a blowfish. So that perfect example about me hitting my head, it's like a blowfish. I wasn't coming out of my house going to a paparazzi's house to attack them. I'm defending my family in front of my own house. I'm defending my name as someone's screaming something negative at me. That's a blowfish. People have me pinned as a shark or a predator in some way, and in no way am I that. I wouldn't want to hurt anyone. I want to defend people. I want to help people."

After clarifying that his rumored 45 minute wedding toast was not a rant just to praise himself,  he told GQ that he looks to redefine how morden day celebrities are portrayed in the media. One thing that's for sure is Yeezy loves his daughter North unconditionally and does not want her to endure the slander and pain that he and Kim have taken on as A-list stars.

"And what I talked about in it was the idea of celebrity, and celebrities being treated like blacks were in the '60s, having no rights, and the fact that people can slander your name. I said that in the toast. And I had to say this in a position where I, from the art world, am marrying Kim. And how we're going to fight to raise the respect level for celebrities so that my daughter can live a more normal life. She didn't choose to be a celebrity. But she is. So I'm going to fight to make sure she has a better life. . . One of the things that I said at the speech was, anyone that's at this table has had to defend me or Kim or both of us at some point in their life. Ask a boxer: "In the third round, when he hit you from the side on your ear, how did that specifically feel?" You wouldn't ask a boxer that. Because you know they're there to fight. Meaning now you know I'm here to fight. I'm here to fight for the re-education of what celebrity is. To say, 'Yes, we are celebrities, but yes, we're also innovators, we're also inventors, we're also thoughtful.'"

Great things are in store for Mr. West in the future. He even told GQ that there's an album on the way and his newest single just might be a pop culture hit. But  of course, being the creative genius that he i he has not fully decided on committing this new genre yet.

Rookie RHP Greene Commits 3 Errors in Yankees' Loss

For Shane Greene, 2014 began as a dream year, no doubt. After being drafted in the fifteenth round of the 2009 MLB draft and making his way through the minors, he got the call up to the bigs. And while any player will say they don't want to earn their break because of an injury in front of them, that's exactly what happened for Greene this year. Because the Yankees starters have been decimated by injury, he finds himself in the starting rotation.

So what could possibly go wrong? On Monday night, in front of over 45,000 fans, Greene had a historic meltdown. He didn't get lit up. He didn't walk in three runs or bean consecutive batters. He just, well, did everything else wrong, earning himself three of the Yankees' five errors on the night.

In the second inning, while covering first, he dropped an easy catch for his first error. He badly missed first base from the third base line, in what would have been a good, but very makeable play. And, saving the worst for last, he inexplicably missed an underhanded throw to first baseman Kelly Johnson by, oh, about forty feet, also in the second inning. But he wasn't done there. Three errors is pretty embarrassing, but even more embarrassing was Greene's determination to avoid a fourth error. His over hand throw didn't work. He failed to lob it underhand. What's left to try? Yep, he just ran as close as possible before throwing the ball to Johnson at first, exactly like I'm always telling my eight year old son not to do.

The Yankees lost 4 -2, and Joe Girardi was typically unbothered by the errors, calling them "physical errors." Me, I'd prefer a mental error or two to a pitcher who throws to first as well as 50 Cent throws out first pitches.

By the way, the last Yankees' pitcher to commit three errors in a game? Tommy John. Yes, that Tommy John.

At this point Greene's season seems to be a mirror image of the Yankees' and their fan's. Hope is being replaced by a determination to not be any worse. But Greene has been pitching well, and it's a long damn season. Years like this one have a way of making it seem even longer, and really, how could things get any worse... You know what? Forget I asked.

WWE Battleground & Raw Recap; Steph's boobs, and more!

How anyone is talking about anything other than Stephanie McMahon's tits is beyond me. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Mrs. Helmsley's cleavage, or lack of, distracted us all from how great these stories really were on last night's Raw. In my opinion, it was even better than Battleground.

Not living up to my expectations, here are Battleground results;
  • Adam Rose defeated Fandango
  • Cameron defeated Naomi
  • The Usos defeated The Wyatt Family
  • AJ defeated Paige
  • Rusev defeated Jack Swagger
  • Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose by forfeit
  • Jericho defeated Bray Wyatt
  • The Miz winning the Intercontinental Championship by last eliminating Dolph Ziggler
  • John Cena winning Fatal Four Way (who didn't see Brock vs Cena at Summerslam)
Battleground was such a waste of time I don't even want to talk about it. Raw absolutely made up for it times ten!
Once you get past Stephanie's not-so-fun-bags, you realize she may be one of the best performers on the roster. She was arrested for slapping Brie Bella after a little bit of name calling. Time away from the ring (and maybe a few acting classes) clearly paid off for this Bella twin. Nikki may have had her ass handed to her but its all for good story telling. I'm excited to see this feud. Stephanie McMahon vs Brie Bella is going to be hot!
We've seen it coming and I'm glad they waited til Raw to turn Paige. Teaming her up with AJ just to assault her after their win was gratifying. I will never like AJ. I watched the entire beat down with a smile on my face.
Triple H is pissed off about Cena's win Sunday night and so am I. Give Kane a chance. I would kill to see the epic battle between Brock vs The Brothers of Destruction at Summerslam. Make the next pay-per-view as good as Wrestlemania. Hopefully WWE keeps with the trend and makes the weeks leading up to Summerslam more satisfying than Battleground.

SZA and Willow Smith "Turn That Sh*t Up," in Brooklyn!

On July 15, 2014, several artists took the stage at the Afro-Punk Kickoff, at the Rough Trade in Brooklyn, New York. There were many fans raging with anxiety to witness live performances by artists such as Englewood New Jersey’s own Cakes Da Killa, Pop duo Denitia and Sene, Mykkia Blanco collaborator Princess Nokia, and HO9909. The energy from the performers were definitely reciprocated into the multi-cultural crowd of roughly over 1,000 energetic music lovers.  The connection between the artists and the crowd, was undeniably amazing. While these are the majority of the names mentioned, an unexpected name was revealed during the steady flow of the concert! 14 year old Willow Smith, daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkest-Smith, entered the stage to surprise the crowd with an unreleased collaborative track with SZA! The unexpected duet between the two, was filled with so much compassion and soul. They both admired one another’s vocals as they took the stage. In the beginning of the sultry single entitled “Domino,” Willow’s mic appeared to sound a little toned down, directing whomever was in charge of the sound to “Turn That Sh*t Up,” but SZA took the initiative to hand over her mic and let Willow take full control of the stage. As the two extremely talented artists harmonized with one another, the crowd cheered them on in amazement of the surprise that had risen before their ears. It was as if Willow had became whole again, and was one with her music as she performed, and SZA felt her energy. Together, they did an amazing job. Towards the end of their performance, SZA commemorated Willow’s such "raw" talent, and also dropped a hint of a soon to be collaboration between the two. The “whip your hair” phenomena has let the world know that she definitely has more in store for her music career, and is prepared to share it with the world. Freedom, peace, simplicity and positive vibes are what seemed to be given within every artist that took their place on that stage on the evening of July 15, 2014. This concert really gave you a glimpse of what to look forward to in the up and coming Afro-Punk Festival, taking place on August 23rd and 24th, it’s needless to say that all of the artists definitely “Turnt That Sh*t Up”, including the sound man.

New York Post Claims Beyonce & Jay Z Are On The Verge Of A Divorce

Beyoncé and Jay Z may be on the run from more than just their joint summer tour.  New York Post's Page Six is reporting that The Carters are currently on the run from each other. According to their unidentified source, Bey and Jay's marriage is on the rocks and Jay Z is doing all he can to save it although he is supposedly the one at fault.

Seeing as how Beyonce has been dangerously in love, crazy in love, and even drunk in love with her husband of six years, there is much speculation revolving around the truth of this report - but we'll let you decide for yourself.

The NY Post reports:

Beyoncé and Jay Z have more than 99 problems and only “divine intervention” can save the troubled marriage, a source close to the powerful couple has told The Post.

While Jay Z seemingly is the one most at fault, he’s also the one doing all in his power to keep the couple together, even hiring marriage counselors who are believed to be traveling with the super duo on their tour, the source said.

“They are trying to figure out a way to split without divorcing . . . This is a huge concert tour and they’ve already gotten most of the money from the promoters up front,” the source said.

Despite the tens of millions the couple will pocket from the current tour, this will certainly be their last and the end of the tour could officially spell the end of the marriage, the source said.

“There are no rings, if you haven’t noticed,” the source said, admitting that he thought things would get better after the birth of the couple’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

“For just a split moment, things got real for them and she was even talking about adding to the family,” the source said.

“But, after a while, Jay was out doing Jay and Bey was out doing Bey. They made the classic mistake of thinking a child would change everything and help to rekindle the initial fire, and it didn’t.”

Being that Page Six does not have the best rapport when it come to blind items, the details surrounding this report still seem to good to be true. Like really . . who would ever want to see America's favorite power couple fold and crumble over a couple of bumps in the road? Do you really believe that Hip Hop's Bonnie and Clyde are on the verge of total destruction?

Kendrick Lamar Rightfully Snags The 2014 August/ September Cover of Complex Magazine

After transitioning from an underground king to a mainstream sensation with the release of his 2012 debut studio album good kid m A. A. d city ,Kendrick Lamar quickly took hold of the Hip Hop game with full force. The Compton native, known to be quick at the tongue with hard-hitting lyrics, has had one hell of a come-up. His debut album brought deep lyrical metaphors to the ears of Hip Hop lovers from every walk of life and soon went on to be deemed of a gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Being that K.Dot is not one to sit around and hold his tongue, it seems very unusually that the rapper has been keeping a low-profile. After suffering a couple of 2014 Grammys snubs, critics were quick to believe that Kendrick just went in hiding. Of course that was too good to be true from a rapper who wasn’t afraid to call out his fellow rappers in the game on his verse in Big Sean’s “Control” track to heat up some much needed competition in the Hip Hop kitchen.

Well Complex Magazine has got the scope and the reasoning behind Kendrick’s chill-out session is some jaw-dropping news! While shooting with K.Dot for the cover of their August/September 2014 issue, Kendrick opened up about working vigorously on his sophomore studio album.

Kendrick told Complex Magazine:

"If I keep focusing on, ‘I need to make something better than good kid,’ it’s going to be just that. That’s not challenging yourself. I don’t want to become that person reflecting on what has been done. What I’m doing now is the question. I’m only as good as my last word, my last hook, my last bridge."

Even Hip Hop game-changers like rap legend Nas told Complex Magazine that he’s psyched about what Kendrick is about to kick up in his follow-up album.

"Kendrick shook up the rap game, so anticipation for his second offering is through the roof.Kendrick’s an album guy and the album artist has a whole different kind of value. Kendrick is going to be one of the most important writers of our time; dude’s a rhyming animal. Whatever he does will be appreciated, but at the same time he knows he has to bring it."

K.Dot looks to be extremely focused on that Complex cover. Hopefully, that intensity will get all rallied up in to his sophomore album so he can rightfully claim his throne once again.

1998; The Greatest Year In Hip Hop History

by:: Frantz Paul

There have been a lot of special years in hip-hop history. The two that have always stuck out for me were 1994 and 1998. I had a good debate with two hip-hop aficionados on why I felt 1998 was bigger than 1994 for hip-hop. They both felt 1994 was better do to the quality of debut classics that were released from Hip-Hop legends like Nas, the Notorious B.I.G and Outkast. It’s hard to argue ’94 wasn’t a great year because I have it second. But for me, from albums, to movements, to musical industry impact, to shifting of landscapes from one coast to another, 1998 was the greatest year in Hip Hop history.

A Changing Of The Guard…

Prior to 1998, the Hip Hop industry had no guidance. There wasn’t one specific location that could stake a claim as the place where Hip-Hop was king; and in Hip-Hop, a place like this is necessary. Here’s why, Hip-hop is a verbal gladiators sport. It thrives on competition and bragging rights. From 1994-1996 hip-hop was ruled by theWest Coast with an iron fist. Between Death Row records and their two brilliant young artist Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg, the production of DazDillinger, Mel Man and the legendary Dr. Dre, the West Coast was a goliath. It seemed people were scared of what Suge Knight was capable of doing if anyone attacked the West Coast Empire. There were other acts like West Side connection putting out music adding the mystique that was west coast rap. But slowly but surely, the west coast began losing its grip. The king of the west coast rap scene Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, Dr. Dre had enough of the terrible working relationship he had with Suge Knight so he left, and Snoop managed to find his way to Master P’s No Limit Record label. Once Death Row’s and the West Coast’s reign was over, there was no dominant area of the country. Rappers would just rep their towns and put out music. But in 1998, that all changed drastically. The birthplace of hip-hop, New York City, started putting out more than just music to rep their city; it was more than that. They were putting out albums and doing certain things to cement that year as the one in which every hip-hop fan during that era would bookmark as the greatest year in the genre’s history.

The Music, The Movements, The Bravado…

Looking back at it now, two rap lines from the same artist, Jay-Z, epitomized 1998; and both had their significance as to what the year epitomized and why it was so impactful. The first line was from his legendary collaboration with an aggressive newcomer from Yonkers, New York named DMX. On Jay-Z’s 1998 album Volume 2…Hard Knock Life, the two joined forces on the banger “Money, Cash, Hoes” which was produced by up and coming super producer Swiss Beats. In that song, Jay rapped, “What’s the dealings/It’s like New York’s been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings/I’m tryna restore the feelings.” It didn’t seem like much on first listen, but Jigga was letting the world know exactly what was transpiring in 1998. Unity. For years New York City was rife with civil wars between Big and Nas, or Big and Rae, or whoever it may be. If there’s no unity, then there is no common goal for the betterment of a goal. On Hov’s album 1998 album, he had New Yorkers like DMX and the LOX helping him join in on his chart-topping epic. The same went for DMX’s 1998 debut It’s Dark and Hell is Hot. X had his own features like Maseand the LOX callabo with him. New York was doing things together, and for the most part they were doing this out of love for music. Of course Nas and Jay weren’t close at the time, and underneath all the camaraderie in the city there were little tensions brewing between Queens Bridge and Roc –A- Fella and Terror Squad, but the music was so transcendent in that year that New York just kept pushing to see how far they could go. The late great Big Pun dropped his debut album Capital Punishment that year and just added to assault that New York rhyme spitters were delivering. Then there were other albums from underground legends Tribe Called Quest who gave us The Love Movement, Black Star dropped their debut “Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star”, Gang Starr dropped their legendary Moment of Truth album, and there were countless other great records that year. New York was killing it, but it wasn’t just New York City. Between the Ruff Ryders movement, the Roc-A-Fella movement, and the Terror Squad movement, NYC hip-hop was taking control. But regardless of what was happening in the Big Apple, there were other regions and cities doing it big for 1998 as well.

It Was Bigger Than Just New York…

As much good as New York was doing in 1998, the South was putting out some amazing material. And yes, it was amazing in case any fellow New Yorkerswant to scoff at that. Two Southern albums dropped in 1998 that were Landmark records. Juvenile’s 400Degreez and Outkast’s Aquemini. If someone plays “Rosa Parks” fromAquemini right now, it still rings off like the first time it was ever played.Aquemini was a Tour de Force and it got “5 mics” in The Source Magazine when getting 5 mics actually meant something special. And then there was 400Degreez in all its Southern bass heavy New Orleans drawl greatness. Even now in 2014, my friends and I will just come out of nowhere and say “You see me, I eat sleep shit and talk rap, you see that ‘98 Mercedes on TV I bought that, I had some felony charges I fought that” and “If I ain’t a Hot Boy then whaddya call that?” from his single “400 Degreez.” While New York was working together to bring the hip-hop crown to the east coast, the South was embroiled in the beginnings of their own Civil War between Juvenile’s Cash Money Records and Master P’s legendary south label No Limit Records. Juvenile’s album put Cash Money on the map and shined light on the South in a year where New York was having its ultimate re-birth. Aquemini and 400 Degreez were two of the best albums that years and are regarded as classics now as well theyshould be. But there is one more place, or one more entity, or rather, there’s one Queen I haven’t mentioned in this entire piece and she deserves a section all her own.

The Greatest Female Rapper To Ever Grace A Microphone Is Here…

1998 year was not a year only dominated by male rappers from New York and the South. On the contrary, one woman jumped into the fray and cemented herself as the greatest femalerapper of all-time, and her name is Lauryn Hill. L-Boogie from the Fugeesdropped her classic album TheMiseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998, and she let the world know she was bigger than just the beautiful rapper/singer from the Fugees. Her album was the showcase of a woman who was bigger than hip-hop, bigger than R n B music. Lauryn’s debut mixed rap, with doo-wop from the 50’s and 60’s and soul from the 70’s to create a masterpiece. From tracks like “Zion”, to “Doo-Wop,” and my favorite Lauryn record of all-time “Everything is Everything”, L-Boogie took us into a world bigger than what we saw on the Fugees 1996 classic The Score. This was all Ms. Hill, all by her talented lonesome in a game dominated by her male counterparts. Every bar Lauryn spit on The Miseducation is a quotable, and every note the Goddess sang gave you goosebumps. There is no female MC in history that can come close to Lauryn’s bars for me, and I mean that with all due respect to other greats like MC Lyte, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. Lauryn won 5 Grammy awards for her debut solo album and it was nothing less than she deserved. All Hail the Queen.

Everyone Pushed Everyone Else To Be Great…

Earlier in the piece I said there were two Jay-Z lines that defined 1998, and Hovbasically prophesized what was happening…sort of. The second line from Jigga that defined that year in my opinion came from his hit single “It’s A Hard Knock Life.” The line that told me this was going to remain one of the greatest years ever was when he said, “I gave you Prophecy on my first joint, but y’all all lamed out/didn’t really appreciate it until the second one came out/so I stretched the game out/etched your name out/put Jigga on top/and dropped album non-stop for you nigga.” When you hear that line, it doesn’t seem like much. But after all these years and seeing at where Jay-Z is now on the musical landscape, he was telling us his master plan from that line. The man has dropped numerous #1 on the chart albums, he became King of Hip-Hop during this 1998 New York re-birth era, and he was telling the world “I gave you a classic with Reasonable Doubt, yet you decided to not pay attention.” Then once In My Lifetime volume 1 dropped, people started paying attention, and now with this record, I’m taking over.” Jay knew it from then, and hip-hop knew it. When he started his ascension to the thrown it was now “everyone catch up with what I’m doing.” And it worked perfectly. This created competition for everyone and gave the hip-hop community a target and person to try to dethrone. This was what the game lacked after the passing of B.I.G and Tupac. Once Jay said that, it was survival of the illest in Hip Hop. Amazing.

In mid-October in 1998, four of the six new albums that appeared in the Billboard top 10 were hip-hop albums. And in the same month Jay-Z, Outkastand Lauryn Hill occupied the top 3 spots on the charts. It was an unprecedented feat in hip-hop until that year.

I was there in 1998 to witness everything great that transpired that year. And for years I told myself one day I would put pen to paper to express my love, joy and admiration for all the artists and people who made 1998 the greatest year in hip-hop history. So to 1998, and all the people who made you the greatest year in hip-hop, I salute you. Hip Hop Stand Up!
